| Is There A Dead Horse in Your Life? Leahcim Semaj, Ph.D. - Change Agent Last September, a friend sent me the following story by email. I share this with the reader to help with the process of self examination. The tribal wisdom of the Dakota Indians, passed on from generation to generation, says that when you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount. In modern education and government, however, a whole range of far more advanced strategies are often employed, such as:-
How many dead horses do you have in your life? Is your job a dead horse? This is one of the main challenges of life, knowing when and how to fold. Knowing how to gracefully let go. We call this "constructive disengagement". Life is dynamic. Things begin, they also end. Learn to accept and embrace change. These are some thoughts to encourage the process. Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. It's better to be a lion for a day than a sheep all your life. No one would ever have crossed the ocean if he could have gotten off the ship in the storm. People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them. There are no mistakes, no coincidences. All events are blessings given to us to learn from. If you have made mistakes...there is always another chance for you...you may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down. The world steps aside to let any man pass if he knows where he is going. Sitting still and wishing makes no man great. The good Lord sends the fishing but you have to dig the bait. - Unknown It doesn't matter how often you get knocked down; what matters is how often you get back up.
Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death. Be absolutely determined to enjoy what you do. If you don't make mistakes, you're not working on hard enough problems. And that's a big mistake. We have enough people who tell it like it is - now we could use a few who tell it like it can be. Embrace your uniqueness. Time is much too short to be living someone else's life. The great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, but in what direction we are moving. Anything less than a conscious commitment to the important Some people think it's holding on that makes one strong; sometimes it's letting go.
