In recent years, he has been involved in 2 projects in Jamaica to launch a new set of values in an organization and help management and staff commit to them. The first was Red Stripe. Their primary value is to be “The World’s Coolest Beer Company”. The Red Stripe Beer achievements that followed the intervention were:
Dr. Semaj also assisted DIGICEL to launch their values. The results were astounding: Digicel Original Business Plan in Jamaica projected 100,000 phones in 1 year. The result was 100,000 phones in 100 days. Today they have the lion’s share of the Mobile phone market. Digicel won the Jamaica National Quality Award and the Excellence in Customer Focus Awards from The Bureau of Standards Jamaica in 2006.
Dr. Semaj is remembered for engineering the successful People’s Initiative to Save the Jamaican Dollar in 1992 and for designed the Cambio system in collaboration with Max Lambie in 1994. Through The JobBank, he assists many companies with Employee Assistance Programmes and the selection of suitable candidates for various posts. Dr. Semaj helps companies and individuals prepare for the New Work Order by monitoring international trends in the world of work.
The Jamaica Employers’ Federation has recognized Dr. Semaj for “Leadership in Innovative Workplace Practices”. He was also included as one of the 101 men who have helped to define modern day Jamaica in Peter Ferguson’s 2006 publication, CHANGE MAKERS.
This Psychologist believes that by working with our ideas – (our Human Capital), and each other (our Social Capital), we can change the world. He is dedicated to the task of identifying Best Practices and assisting individuals and companies to achieve them, so that we can all Do Well by Doing Right.
Dr. Semaj and his wife owns a 57 acre ‘Jahmganic farm’, Asante Adonai, where they are driven to provide food security guided by spiritual principles, using traditional Jamaican farming practices and respecting the organic farming system. For Work-Life balance Dr. Semaj walks half marathons and plays golf. He has bred, trained and showed Rottweiler and German Shepherd dogs for the past 20 years.
